Congratulations! Being a bridesmaid is a fortunate experience any girl could have. Let the joy sink in. After some breathers, it is time to roll up your sleeves and get down to business.
You are now officially responsible for a lot of aspects of the bride till her wedding day. Besides standing next to the bride and smiling, you have been bestowed with the duty of being there for her starting now. We hope to guide you to be the best bridesmaid ever.
BEFORE THE WEDDING
BE THERE FOR HER EMOTIONALLY
Weddings are stressful mostly to the bride, and that’s where you need to be there for support. Whether it is shopping, planning or dealing with a zit, manage her emotional rollercoaster with a happy memory or her favourite snack.
BE AVAILABLE FOR EVERY PRE-WEDDING EVENTS
Your presence will mean a lot to her, and since you are going to assist her with a lot of important things on the big day, you will need an orientation. There are no regulations for a bridesmaid to attend to everything, but it is morally up to you to be her rock. Offer your help whenever you feel like she needs it, it will be deeply appreciated.
PLAN FOR A BRIDAL SHOWER
While some brides may ask for a bridal shower, you don’t need an invitation from the bride when she doesn’t ask. Plan a shower with the other bridesmaids and close friends; pay for the food, decorations, drinks and whatever hiring is done. Finally, make sure the bride is available on the day to attend her bridal shower.
BUY YOUR BRIDESMAID DRESS AND SHOES ON TIME
Do not wait for the last minute to go shopping, it is essential for you to keep the attire and accessories ready beforehand. Some brides provide everything readymade for her bridal team, but it is better not to assume this and get disappointed.
GO SHOPPING WITH THE BRIDE
Should the bride ask you to join her to go shopping, go ahead keeping in mind some etiquette. Depending on her updates on the latest trends, guide her or support her on her decisions. Avoid being too critical and opinionated at her choices; after all, everyone has different preferences.
ON THE WEDDING DAY
BE THERE TO DRESS THE BRIDE
Bridal gowns are usually not easy to get in and needs extra hands. She trusts you, and she is comfortable with you, so be the one to help her get into her wedding gown.
BE READY WITH SNACKS AND AN EMERGENCY KIT
The rush may keep the bride too occupied to have a proper meal. A smart bridesmaid will see to it that the bride gets a good bite and avoid being tipsy from hunger during the ceremony. Show your thoughtfulness by keeping an emergency kit handy. Basic contents will include first aid, sewing kit, stain remover, and the hope that you won’t need these.
BE ALERT ON THE CUE
During the ceremony, you ought to be on hand to give or receive things from her, provide her with tissues if she forgot to take one and most of all, stand by her for support.
MANAGE THE KIDS
Children are adorably unruly. They are hard to sit still for a long time, and it is certain they will walk about or even create some cute scenes during the nuptials. Bridesmaids are always prettily dressed, having said that the kids will not mind being directed by someone that looks divine.
BE THE LIFE OF THE PARTY
It’s the final phase, and it is a wedding for crying out loud. Do we need to give you reasons to make the party come to life? Dance with all your heart with the newly wedded couple and others, and show your joy in their happy ending. You have been a great bridesmaid; you deserve to make merry; others will join you.
